All proceeds from our auctions help fund our rescue work with abandoned and abused pets like Chief, the English Bulldog pictured here. Chief was surrendered to us when his owner no longer wanted him. As soon as we picked him up, we noticed Chief had a large lump on his right front leg and we were quite concerned about it. His previous caretaker said he’d fallen off the porch, but we weren’t convinced so we had the vet examine it. The vet believed it to be a lymphoma and said it needed to be removed. Unfortunately, Chief was in poor shape and the vet didn’t want to risk putting him under anesthesia at that time. When Chief came to us, he was extremely overweight and in generally poor condition Everything seemed to be an effort for him, even breathing. We found out that his previous owner had been feeding him Ol”Roy dog food, which accounted for his poor coat and horrible gas, among other things. We immediately put Chief on a better diet and he began to blossom. When we took Chief in to the vet to have the tumor removed, we weren’t surprised to hear that the outlook wasn’t good. During surgery, the vet found that the tumor was ingrained deeply in the muscle and there would be no way to remove all of it. We were given the option of amputating the leg or having Chief put to sleep. There was no hesitation at all, this boy was not going to be put to sleep. We asked that a biopsy be done so we’d know what we were dealing with. Unfortunately, the cancer was highly malignant and the chances of it coming back were high. We decided not to put Chief up for adoption but to let him live out the rest of his days with his foster family. He became a very much loved member of the family and was spoiled rotten. Chief lost his battle with cancer after a long fight. We are thankful to have been given the chance to know and love him. He is dearly missed by his foster family and all who knew him. Chief’s battle with cancer was a costly one and even though he is gone, we are still trying to pay off his vet bills. Your donations help us to pay the veterinarian and to continue to save dogs like Chief. Our passion is helping senior and special needs dogs. With your help, we can continue our work. Thank you and God bless!
